ok guys I have read alot of the posts on here about this but have gotten different answers so heres my question hopefully someone has done this and can fully answer my question. I have a 1983 s10 with the 2.8 v6 and the t4 (t5 without overdrive) anyway my question is what exactly do i have to do to put it behind my 305 from a 3rd gen z28? I know you have to cut off part of the input shaft and im thinking there was something else, I realize the bellhousings are different but if a t5 from a z28 bolts to the bellhousing shouldnt the t4 from the s10? are there differences in the pattern on the transmission alone or just the bellhousing?? I have the t5 from my camaro but it needs to be rebuilt and stuff so for now im hoping i can use my stock tranny for a month or so. all answers greatly appreciated.

The 2.8 motor is a 60-degree V6 and the 305 is a 90-degree v8. the bell housings will not match up. They are a differnet pattern and nowhere near the same witdth.

Wait and use the T5 from the camaro

I understand the bellhousings are completely different but your saying the t4/t5 from the 2.8 will not bolt up to the v8 bellhousing?

If you put the camaro bellhousing on the engine and bolt up the smaller trans, it will not sit at the right angle. If you look at the camaro trans, you will see that it bolts up to the bell housing rotated about 20-degrees. Then the shifter is located the opposite turn to put it straight up.

It will bolt up, but it will put the shifter at an angle. If you get a regular bell housing, it may work. However, if you are going to have the other trans soon, it seems like a lot of work to do twice. That\'s up to you though...

save yourself alot of work and get a 5 spd new venture from behind a 4.3 s10 i was tight on funds and my t5 only lasted 1600 miles., that was being fairly easy on it.

I was at my local junkyard this afternoon saw about 8-10 4.3 s10s in hope of finding the new venture 5 speed and not one was a manual, better luck next time i suppose.

The t4 and the t5 are the same except for the extra gear. As for the camaro\'s 5 spd. It does sit on angle. I believe the shifter is bent the opostie angle to stand straight up when isntalled. The shifter from the s- t4/5 is straight up. If you use the camro bell w/ the s-t4/5 the shifter will point at your leg and be extremly akward to shift. You could remove the angled shifter from your camaro unit and put it on the s-unit. And it should work. Since you already have the camro t-5 you could measure the lenght of the throw out bearing shaft and the lenght of the input shaft and match thier lenghts. I cut both of them to use the t4/5 in my s-blazer. I have the measurements but I can\'t find them now.
