Will a large cap HEI distributor fit without modifying the firewall? This is the type with an integral coil in it? Or is the small cap required? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

i was using a small cap MSD pro billet. with an Accel 300+ box. but i sold all that and went with a Hypertech HEI distributor. (big cap) i have a 327 in the far back position. no mods were made. i have to put the distributor in 1st the the rotor and cap. NOTE: rotor must come off to put dist. in place. but once its on it fits fine. about an inch or more clearance on the firewall side.

In a 2nd gen, the very center, top of the firewall extends out.

Comparing it to a 1st gen truck, where the firewalls very flat.

You can still fit the large cap HEI in there. I have my mounts set up, so all I have to do its pull the cap off, and I can pull the distributor out without having to pull the motor forward.

I got a small cap MSD pro billet distributor over the winter, and I still have to pull the cap off to get it in and out.

My motor is slid all the way back to where there is barely any room between the firewall and the big hei. I can get the cap off easily, but the problem I recently encountered is the fact that I cant pull the distributor without pulling the motor forward or pulling the intake.

Make sure it will come out where it sets. 1/8th back isnt going to make that much difference weight wise.

I am running the hei and all I have to do is remove the cap to get it out. My motor is as afr forward as it will go though

Me neither...till I went to drop the motor in, and I was bout 8\" short from getting the motor back enough. Same when I went to put my air cleaner on....hit the firewall.

Im using the JTR mounts, and using the #210 eletric fans, my motors far enough back that my rads in the stock location. And like I said I can still get mine out by just removing the cap.

Originally ran an Accel HEI with motor all the way back and it cleared fine. One boot was against the firewall but it managed.

Now i have a MSD pro billet with small cap.

No you con use a large cap and it will not get in the way of the firewall.
