Hello Everyone...

I figured this would be the place to find out the answer to my question... The other day I was driving down the interstate in my \'93 S10 w/ 2.8L and a 5 speed about 70mph (Yes, it WILL go that fast http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif and all of the sudden... BANG! CLUNK! OH SHIT!!! There was a catostrophic failure somewhere in my transmission. I was wondering if there are ANY other transmissions besides the 5 Speed that will bolt up to the 2.8??? I think the 5 speed is a T5-1... Correct me if i\'m wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You,

Jared Carlson

why not go back with the same tranny?

I believe that it has been demolished internally. If I could pick up a tranny for around $250.00 I would probably be getting a good deal. Let me know what you think.

It is a 2WD. I found a tranny at a junkyard. The tranny has 148,483 miles on it. The guy was asking $435, but I talked him down to $400. I dont know if this is a lot of money for a T5 or not. There aren\'t any automatics that would bolt up to the 2.8? Thank you guys for the input!

Man, am I ever glad I waited this out!!! I found a guy that lives by me that did a V8 conversion, and has the EXACT same truck I do. I offered him $50 for the Tranny, and he said he would sell it!

Thanks for the help,

good. 148k is alot on a t5. thats around the same mileage my original one had on it when it failed. $450 or even $400 is way too much for it too.

ever took one out before?

The tranny I picked up has 90k on it. The guy that I got it from got the truck from his dad, then did the conversion right away. He said that it has been \"babied its whole life\" but I guess you cant be sure.

Yesterday my neighbor and I took out the tranny. Before we took it out I took out the shifter, cover, boot, and drained the fluid. When I pulled the drain plug I was expecting fluid to go all over... WRONG!!!

There was a total of 1/4 CUP of tranny fluid in the tranny!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif It has only had that much fluid in it since I bought the truck. That means I have ran that tranny for 10k with 1/4 cup of tranny fluid! I thought that was pretty amazing myself, but it was a lesson learned.

How much fluid should be in a T5? 2 Quarts I\'m assuming? Is Dex3 ATF fine to use?

Thanks for your help!

I know that for a fact! My first speeding ticket was on a country road (speed limit 55) and the Sherrif clocked me at 87mph at the bottom of the hill. The fine was $250! I went to court and got it lowered from (30-34 over) to (20-24 over). The fine was only lowered to $210, but I couldn\'t complain. I lost my liscense for 15 days, because I was only 16 http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

When I drained the fluid, it was a whitish pink color. I ran 1 Quart through it, and it cleaned out to red color. No metal chunks/flakes where in the transmission. It took about an hour or so with minor snags involved. I gave it a test drive, and it seems like the throwout bearing is making some noise... is that normal? Thank you guys for all of your help!
