So I got a 93 blazer, full of qwerks. The key is stuck in the ignition in the ON position. To turn the vehicle off you have to disconnect the alt. The hood latch is rigged at the front of the grill, and 2 out of the 4 power windows work, and the head gasket is blown, and the tranny doesn\'t shiftout of 2nd gear.
Anyway my question is how do you replace a tumbler? Thanks!

so just take the plastic off the steering column and see what Im up against and go from there? Is there anything tricky to it or something of that sort?

You have to pull the steering wheel, then there is a torx head set screw that holds the cylinder in. You will need a steering wheel puller, and I think you need the bridge deal that is used to put pressure on the retainer plate so you can remove the clip that holds it in. Then I think you can get at the set screw. Been a while since I was in a steering column though, so I may be off on the retainer deal. Once you get in there it will make sense.

go to auto zone befoer you do anything and get a GM lock plate compressor. otherwise youre gonna beat the shit out of yourself and the steering column gettin the bloody thing back together if it goes back together at all.
tools needed: socket set, philips head screwdrivers, needle nose or snap ring pliers, torx drivers, picks, or something that can be used as a pick, steering wheel puller, and a lock plate compressor.
center the steering wheel
1. remove horn button
2. remove snap ring
3. remove nut holding steering wheel on
4. press steering wheel off
5. remove snap ring
6. remove lock plate
7. remove 4 way flasher button (philips head screw in center of button. be careful, its spring loaded)
8. remove 3 torx screws holding turn signal cam in place
9. disconnect wires and remove turn signal cam
10. upper righthand, roughly 130 - 2:00 position theres is a screw (believe it to be torx) that holds the ignition lock in place, remove it and finally remove the ignition lock.
11. make note of position of the key in the old ignition lock, in this case its on, insert the key into the new ignition lock and turn it to the run position before inserting it into the steering column.
12. installation is reverse of removal until you get to the lock plate. the lock plate is only gonna go on one way. install exactly in this order: lock plate, snap ring, lock plate compressor.
you have to crank the thing down past the point where the the groove is for the snap ring. then make sure the snap ring is fully seated before you release the tool.
as far as i can remember thats it ina nutshell. i might be missing a step or 2 in there with removing random screws. its no big deal though. if you need to remove more than that then do it. theres nothing major in there thatll cause any major headaches.

Before you do anything, try rotating the plastic collar one way or the other and see if your key comes out. That collar\'s supposed to be locked in place, but mine\'s not and somehow it twisted a little bit and kept the key from turning all the way back. My truck would still turn off, but the key wouldn\'t come out. We took the entire column apart before we found that. It\'s worth a try . . .

Hey Riot, you write service manuals for GM http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif . Your the next best thing to being there. Sounds like you\'ve done it a few times. Perry.
