Let my truck run for about ten fifteen min today idle about 1400 hundred. temp gauge stayed at 195 but when i shut it off it flowed over into the overflow tank. When i sqeeze the hoses sounds like airs in the motor any ideas. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif

do you have a electric fan or mechanical?
sounds like you need an electric fan with a thermostat,so it will keep running until the desired temp is reached even if you turn off the truck.thats how i have mine, but i also have a manual fan+the electric.

I got a electric fan dont have it hooked up yet. I just dont understand why it did that when the temp gauge was a 195.

Suggestion----- remove radiator cap----- start engine--allow to get to operating temp so water will start flowing-- if u can see the water flowing in the radiator good--- if not add water till it comes up to level where u can see it-reinstall cap let idle for about 10 minutes- cut off-se what happens--if same results---get new cap.

well when you turn it off its gonna heat up for a second because the mechanical fan is not turning anymore.mine did that before i added the electric.mine was only running at about 185,but when i turned it off..i could turn the switch back on,and the temp was up to 200.now my electric fan stays on after i turn off the truck until the electric fan gets it to around 180,then the temp control turns it off.

Is the radiator cap new? Pressure rating is? If there is a little air in the system, it\'ll work it\'s way to the top (cap) and will wind up being spit out into the overflow tank, and coolant drawn back in as the system cools.
.......... But it\'s best to do as ADH said at first startup. Also, depending on how your heater is plumbed/controlled, you might want to turn on the heat when filling/first running the truck.

You had an air pocket in the cooling system. Ideally, you want the radiator cap higher than the rest of the cooling system (motor included) so that air will travel to the highest point. If your radiator is lower that the thermostat housing, try using a venting valve of some kind to let the air out. Alot of factory cars come with the air bleeder valves on them now.
