i know the t-400 are better than the t-350 at preformance and duribility. Will they fit or will i have to get the sledge hamer out or even worse the welder! has anyone ever done a t-400 install

A buddy of mine is a tranny guy and he talked both me and another friend out of putting them in my 83 s10 and a 66 chevelle.

He felt the 400 robbed the motor of some of the power running through it. He said the 350s could be made stout enough even for the 66.

The chevelle is running the whole RPM performer series stuff with the block balanced.

She pushes over 400 hp and has never had a problem with tranny( he is not a very tame driver, he drives it like he stole it).

But it will also fit in your S10.

The 400 is heavier, and the gears are lower than the 350. The Th350 does eat up less hp than a 400. It requires you to use a large yoke for the driveshaft too. A TH350 can hold a lot of hp if built right.

Back to your original question, it should fit with little difficulty. You will need to find the different driveshaft yoke, and probably move your crossmember.

Th-350 is better for dragracing for sure. The th-400 will be better for street use or the occacional racer. even if you do have to mod the crossmember and yoke, it would be worth it to have the extra gear for the highway.

Huh??? The TH400 is a 3 speed just like the 350.

TH400 has: 2:48. 1:48. 1:00

Th350 has: 2:52, 1:52, 1:00

2.52 1.52 1.0 ratios are better for the 1/4 mile. The shorter ratios make for quicker acceleration.

The gears are just lower. Little better acceration with the same rear gears. Just like I posted before, lol. I was just saying there\'s no overdrive in the Th400

i have seen alot of high power cars running a 350 trans with no problem the 400 do take more power to run depends on what you want and what your going to do with it they fit fine in s-10s

no no no no....the 400 is a piese of crap...just because it is so heavy ..heres why.. almost every drag car that i have seen have a glide or a 350 in them because they a lighter .....the weight of the internal mass of the tranny tends to put a lot of stress of the parts in side...now a full out drag car weighs a lot less than a regular stree car...and a s10 is just as light ...now a 400 in a heavy car thats not to bad ...like a truck or maybe a chevelle...ok thats my 4cents worth...its 4 cents now due to inflation

I definatly would not run a Th-400 in a truck that is going to make alot of power. Like has been said before, you wont see hardly any drag vehicles with a 400. Also there is a very very big diff in the ratios, it may not look like much but it does make a big difference. And as far as the overdrive goes, if you have a 350 with low rearend gears (3.73 or lower)then who needs it, and if you have high racing gears(above a 3.73) why are you bitching about gas mileage anyway with a race engine.

biggest thing with the th350 is the weak parts

if you want the extra gear fpr the highway get the 700R4 it just about the same as the 350 in length i believe..only thing is that you will have to get the lock up kit for it if you are running carburetion.....hope this helps.......Greg

A th350 will hold 500hp pretty much stock. When I was planning the procharged 383 my tranny guy said to get a good converter and it should hold 800hp.

Thats a little wild! 800hp?

Yeah it would have been wild and price would have been like 15000 USD. Plus all the frame and drivetrain mods to handle it. Too bad I don\'t have the $$$$.
