Have any of you put either a Mallory or an Accel Coil on top of a stock GM HEI (1975-1986) distributor? If I do this will I notice a difference in the motor starting easier, and in the ignition not breaking up in the higher rpm\'s? I realize that a complete MSD or equivalent setup would be better, but will just the coil benefit me some for now?

I was going to put an Accel coil on mine but there wasn\'t room.

I put an MSD coil on my stock HEI.....it felt like it aided in starting and also top end....also seemed like the plugs burnt cleaner.....but , then, I had also added the MSD wires at the same time; so maybe a combo???

Thanks. My brand of choice would be Mallory so I\'ll try a mallory coil and maybe some decent wires.

will the hei set up go right in or do you have to mod the fire wall for it .... also can you pull it out once the motor is in.... my motor will be going in next month and i dont wana run hei and not be able to pull it out if something happends... or have it in the motor and it not fit right and cause a bunch of problems....

Mallory just came out with a HEI that has a built in rev limiter. I used a Supercoil on a 78 TA acouple years ago and i don\'t think it did anything. I run a stock HEI and it clears the firwall but is a pain to change the cap on it.

Hypertech has a 53,000 volt coil for about $69.

The super coil puts out 48,ooo volts.

You will be able to remove the dist. no differently then a point setup.
