i was headed to the junk yard saturday morning. theres a culvert on the side of the road. directly above the culvert is a concrete abutment that sticks up approx. 6 inches to a foot from ground level. this whole thing is literally 6 inches off of the road. im going around this corner and BOOM. got the jeep up on 2 wheels, temporarily lost control of it for about 100 yards and managed to bring it to a stop some 100 yds down the road sideways on the other side of the road. the whole time it was out of control i was swinging from the other side of the road all the way over to the embankment on my side of the road. i missed a mailbox be a few feet and a telephone pole by a few millimeters. thank god there was nobody coming down the other side of the road. i live in a rural area and this road is uphill both ways and twisty the whole way. THE DAMAGE:
1. destroyed both tires on the right side of the vehicle, pulled them off of the beads front and rear on both rims, sidewalls completely destroyed. two brand new bridgestone dueler a/t\'s. less than 1000 miles on em. - i could cry
2. destroyed both rims on the right side
3. knocked the grille off from the impact with the bridge abutment
4. broke all but 1 of the ECM screws. destroyed the ECM, cracked the board in 3 pieces.
5. destroyed the righthand axle seal for the front rear
6. cracked the header panel.
7. did something to the bumper. the bumper didnt get hit but it dont look right.
8. somehow managed to break the rear washer line
9. tires hit the wheel wells front and rear, destroyed both
10. bent the frame (its unibody)
11. bent the leaf springs on the right rear, twisted the u bolts sideways from top to bottom
since saturday i got 2 new tires and rims for it. got and installed a new computer and completely rebuilt the front rear. i just drove it tonight. the alignment is slightly off. i wonder why? the ride height is off right to left and the rear axle is off right to left. im gonna take it into work tomorro and get it up on the lift and give it a thorough shakedown. after that im gonna put it on the alignment rack. thats where the whole tale is gonna get told.
all things considered. thank god thats as bad as it was. cars can be replaced. people cant. someone upstairs was paying attention.
