its a good truck 305 v8 conversion, just there always seems to be little issues... sometimes in the morning i start it up and it dosnt fire all 8, when i floor it for more then 2-4 seconds it bogs out, it randomely bogs out... What should i do to just make it a reliable vehichle?

thanks, riley

Fuel injection can work wonders.

Agreed. Fuel injection is great for reliability. Even a TBI would be great if you want mroe simplicity. Another thing is a good solid ignition system. Quality cap, rotor, plug wires, plug, and even a box like an MSD if you really want to take it to the next level.

All in all it sounds like you are hacing carb troubles. Likely needs to be tuned or cleaned.

i think fuel injection is beyond my know how unfortunetly, i think i will change my ignition system since at the moments its stock, and maybe i will switch to a holley carb! edelbrock carbs have been givin me nothing but trouble

Thinking of jumping to FI is a little extreme & crazy when we don\'t even know what\'s wrong.

Details. It\'s all in the details.

* Start with the wiring. Are all your connections good? No twist & tape connections? No corrosion at connections, and lots of good, clean & solid grounds?

* Fuel delivery. Got enough fuel pressure at the carb? Yet not too much? If you don\'t have a gauge, get one. Got a good filter near the carb?

.......... Then you\'ve got to troubleshoot each problem. Is it flooding when it\'s cold? A choke adjustment or pull-off adjusment might be in order. Is the ignition marginal for some reason? Shut it down when it\'s running like crap and look at the plugs. Also do the same when it\'s warmed up and running well. That might tell you something.

Just pick one problem at a time, and stay focused!!! I bought my truck with the v8 already in it, but it took me 3 years to get it to the point that it is now. I pretty much had my hands on everything except the motor and trans. It was a long hard road, but I\'m there now. The trucks not done, but its reliable! Good luck.

Sooo today, i replaced my distributor i went full msd, replaced water pump, put a 160 degree high flow thermostat in, took my gear drive out and put double roller timing chain in, it starts up better and runs a bit better, but im still bogging out, im pretty sure my little carter electric fuel pump isnt givin me enugh gas soo new fuel pump it is!

sounds like you have the elderbrok blues. a car with not enough fuel will suffer on top end and will not bog at lower rpm\'s, it stumbles. theres a difference http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

yah my trucks fine for city driving, (start and go, start and go) because then the fuel pump has enugh time to build up gas in the carb, but as soon as i floor it it dosnt go any faster because there usually is not enugh gas for it to burn http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif

aw darn, so today driving home from work i hit a bump (and since my truck was low) the front end hit the ground and managed to break my fuel line loose, luckily i justtt made it home on the gas left in the carb *phewww, new fuel line and pump tommorow! and i will make sure to double hose clamp all my connections!

See what I meant regarding reliability.... \"It\'s all in the details\".... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

............ Good that you got it home though. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

............. A little trick with the steel line to rubber hose connections: If you double flare the end of the metal line, even just a little, it makes it near impossible for the rubber to slip off accidently.

.............. Another \"reliability\" thing that I like to do: Wherever a wire, hose, or even a steel line has any chance of rubbing against something, cut a piece of rubber hose, (sized appropriately) slit it open, and ty-rap it around the wire or hose.

soo my old carter fuel pump was deliver 30 gph (apprently) and my new holley one i should be getting 60-70 gph i think that will help my bogging problem
