shortening a 9\'\'

hey guys i have a question i hope somebody can help me with. I just got a hell of a deal on a 9\'\'. a 9\'\' with disc brakes and a extra set of gears(brand new) for $100. not bad. anyways does anybody have the exact dimensions for narrowing a 9\'\' to fit under a s-10 without having to cut into the frame. Also i can see why the the differential isn\'t centerd on a s-10 but if you change everything(motor, tranny and driveline) why should you have to keep it offset.

you dont but you will have to move the motor/trans over
