I think v6 and v8 starters are the same. just some are stagerd bolt pattern and straight across. Just make sure you use the right flywheel. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

i have a 1983 305 and i used the stock starter it fit fine wasnt too hard to get it on, but it all depends where your motor is sitting, mine is sitting a little far back... but yah it\'ll work!

Not to throw a wrench in to all this great information but..which flywheel you using? Most of the 305\'s used a the 153 tooth flywheels and there fore you\'ll have to use the 305 starter. If you are useing the 168 tooth flywheel, then you can use the 4.3L starter. I myself use the 168 tooth flywheel with a mine starter off of a 98 up full size Chevy p.u.

Just my two cents sir.

Good luck,

Jeff...
