ok, either you already know this and I\'m new to it or you don\'t know about it either.... and maybe this is the case with a lot of chevy heads.... but either way, here it is:

I have a set of the edelbrock e-tec 170s.... the other day I took the valves out of them to clean them and I noticed that I had a very large amount of deposits on the stem of all of the intake valves.... I couldn\'t figure out why it was just on the intake valves... so, I started researching this problem on several sites.

At first I thought that I had bad valve guides and the oil was seeping past them.... I re-installed all my valves and checked the play at the tip of the valves.... everything was nice and tight.

After reading some more about this problem, I learned that in some chevy heads that have screw in rocker studs, the stud hole goes all the way through into the intake runner of the head.... so, I looked at mine.... sure enough, they do. I took the rocker studs out of my heads and found there to be no thread sealant of any kind on the bolts.... so, there is the problem... Oil leaked past the threads on the rocker arm studs into the intake runner....

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who doesn\'t already know about this.
