View Full Version : 4x2 4x4 Rearends
I just check what rearend i have and it is a 3.42. What i would like to know is can i take a rearend of a 4x4 with 3.42 posi and put it on my two wheel drive truck? Is there any diffence between two and four wheel drive rearends?
I am not an expert, but I think the rear for the 4x4 is wider.

i don\'t know for sure but i think that only the ZR2 rearends are wider. I want to say that a first gen S10 4x4 rear will fit, but i\'m no expert either.

the 4x4 rearend is wider, because when you get 2wd rims, you need 0 offset, and then the 4x4 rims you want near a +40mm offset. It is wider, but i think you could compensate for the offset just with a 40mm offset, just it will make the front rims look different from the rear. Plus, you can find 2wd rearends with posi, i have a stock 2wd 7 5/8\" limited slip 3.42 rear end in my truck.
Maybe i can take the guts out of a posi 4x4 and put in my truck if that would work.

4X4\'s are wider that 2wd and ZR2\'s are wider than reg 4X4\'s but the ZR2 rears also are 8 1/2 but they are 3.73\'s
Hope I helped

yes you can take just the carrier and pinion gear and put them into your housing... it will work fine... just make sure they pattern is proper when you put it back togather and if it\'s a 7.625 rear it will need 28 spline axels and if it\'s 7.5 it needs 26 spline axels, so make aure you get the right carrier

Yes the 4x4 rear is wider. By 2 1/2 inches per sdie on all 4x4\'s except the ZR-2\'s they\'re wider yet but not sure just how muc wider.
