View Full Version : Rhoads Lifters
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone out there is using Rhoads Lifters. The variable duration thing looks great on paper but does anyone have any experience with them.
Thanks

I have used them in the past with good results, but they are a crutch for people choosing the wrong camshaft. IMHO.
They work well if you pick too large of a cam and need to knock some duration off your cam at low rpm. It is best to just pick the correct cam and lifters in the first place.

Friend of mine has\'im in a 428 goat. as i recall they worked well but they were a little noisy at idle, kinda sounded like a solid.
It\'s a form of variable cam timing without going to elaborate. Cams have come a ways since then, broader torque curves.

click,clack,click,clack.....
Tried them myself thats what they sound like. Not impressed. Bought matched lifters from comp cams. Happy now.

Jeff said it right. It\'s smarter to just pick the right cam for your combination. Those lifters work, but they\'re noisy and if they were really super great, you\'d be hearing a lot more about them. They\'ve been around for years and cam technology has far surpassed the era when these were popular. Call Comp Cams and speak to a tech. He can have the perfect cam/lifter combo picked out for you in about 10 minutes.

They work best nowdays for spec class racing where everyone has to rum the same cam. It\'s application in classes where there are no camshaft rules is very limited. They also make a jumper cam to achieve more lift. When you measure the lift at the cam it will be whatever amount the class rules are for max lift. But at high rpm it sends the lifters jumping off the cam to achive more lift.
