View Full Version : rockers
I have a question and I was wondering a solution. A couple of weeks ago I put new springs on my 350 and I already had crane roller rockers on for a few months. And also fairly recent lifters. The springs I put on are a little heavier duty than stock. But I adjusted the rockers to get the ticking out like your supposed to do and then I drove it for about a week off and on the interstate and the ticking came back again. So I adjusted everything again and now its back it only stays quiet for about a week. I was wondering if there is an easy solution to fix this or am I going to just have to keep adjusting them to work itself out. Cause before I out the springs on they were staying quiet all the time so that why I think it will work its way out. Thanks for any help, Kory

do the rockers use poly-locks, or just the regular fine threaded nuts? If it uses just regular nuts.. do you have to adjust them ALL? or just a certain few?

Also do you have screw in studs or press in studs. Sounds like what happened to me. I put heavy duty springs on mine and didn\'t put in screw in studs to start with. The studs pulled loose and drove me nuts until I figurede it out. Screw in studs and poly locks are the only way to go.
Jeff.....
My studs I believe are press in but do you think they could pull out. I have the locks then the good nuts on top to hold everything together. Maybe when I adjust them I m not going far enough down. But I am going 1/2 to 3/4 turn Im afraid to go further than that.

different lifters require different preload, some require 0 lash.. others want a 1/4 turn or a 1/2 turn.. some even 3/4 turn etc... if you put stiffer springs then pulling the rocker studs out is DEFINATELY NOT out of the question, especially if fasrnur has had it happen to him.

With great power, comes great responsibility.
but the only thing I am confused about is would it still run ok with them pulled out because it runs fine it just sounds loud thats all. I thought if i keep adjusting them eventually they would be ok

no it will not be ok if you run it with the noise, the noise is the slop in the linkage, whats going to happen is that the pushrod will slip off the rocker and then bend a valve and or the pushrod. i would def spend the money and have the studs fixed. if you keep tightning the rockers, you are just pulling the studs out further. eventually the studs will just come all the way out and then you have even a bigger problem. the rocker will be ruined the valve will be gone and the head could also be damaged. TAKE THE HEADS OFF AND HAVE THEM FIXED!!!!! its not worth the $$$ to wait and see what happens!!! spend now or pay big time later!! and its not even that much money to have them fixed. my heads had some loose studs and i replaced them my self, and if you dont want to do it, then bring them somewhere, only like 80 to get them all replaced. or if ya want, my heads are gonna be for sale soon, you can buy them, they are cast heads with 1.94 1.5 valves, they have been ported and they have like 1300 miles on them, they are basically new. just pm me if you are interested, i also have a performer intake. just make an offer, i have all the receipts for them, i put almost 900 into the heads alone! they are a great set, they have hardened seats and everything!
I guess I was thinking I had polylocks on my rockers but I must of been mistaken. All I have on there is the washer looking thing that you get when you buy the threaded nuts and the nuts. Do you think I should put the polylocks on them first for the time being and see what happens. If so what kind of polylocks should I buy. Thanks alot!!
