I am starting my conversion in my 83 2wd blazer and I was wondering if I could change out the tranny from it to the 4x4. The tranny in the 4x4 is cracked along the upper right hand bolt. just thought this might be a solution but I thought about the tranny crossmember and .....? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

if there the same kind of trans you should be able to install the transfer case from one to the other..

no, it will not work,4x4s have different cases ffrom the 2wd internals will interchange but cases are different

The case isnt different the mounting pad is different, but that can be swaped... other than that, 2wd and 4wd are the same...

You can use the 4x4 trans if they both had the same motor...just have to change the output shaft and tail shaft to adapter.

I was thinking of not using the transfer case at all and using it as a 2wd for awhile until I could get another tranny.

now you are looking at another driveshaft as well...2wd is different length.

The drive shaft from your 2 wheel drive might work. Measure the distance from where the bellhousing meets the block to the front of the rear axle yoke. If this dimension is within 3/8\" on both it\'ll work. You still gotta build a crossmember, tho. The frames are totally different.
