Hey guys, I ran into a problem last night with my spark plug wires. Been building a 95 S-10 for almost 4 years now. This project got more expensive than I thought it would...
Anyway, I have Sanderson S10 headers and some corvette aluminum heads. The front/driverside spark plug comes out of the head and is maybe 3/8\" from the header tube. The spark plug wire (90 degree boot) makes direct contact with the header tube. Have any of y\'all encountered this? Any ideas on how I could remedy this problem? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

you can use the Accel shorty plugs and you could also use the jacobs plug wires with the porcilan end. with stands heat up to 2200 degrees. or maybe a little hotter. if its the L98 heads with the angled plugs this might be your only choice.

Damn, those wires are pretty high dollar! Looks like I won\'t be getting this engine fired up this week after all. I\'ll try the shorty plugs, but I don\'t think that\'ll get me far enough away. Probably gonna have to go with the Jacobs Wires. Thanks!

Most bosch plus are shorter than other plugs. I have ran the accel plugs in the past. By using the bosch you get a better selection and are alot less expensive and most places have them.

A couple thoughts:
* If the Bosch plugs are shorter in your heat range, good deal! And yeah, the Accel plugs don\'t have much choice for heat ranges.
* If the headers aren\'t coated, you could dimple the tube a little for extra clearance. It\'d be a crime to dimple newly coated headers.
* I use the cheapie Yellow Accel wires, and although not touching headers, some boots are scary close, and they don\'t even discolor. So maybe one wrap of header insulating tape in that one spot and you\'d be OK??

moroso and a few other companies make a sock that is fire proof that goes over the plug boot. we had to use those on a 95 camaro with 1 3/4\" headers. but with them touching they still got so hot that they started to dry out and crumble away after about 2 months or so. so we still had to go with the jacobs wires.

thanx for all the advise. i bought some short headers and had about 1/8\" gap with the wire on. i\'ll look for those fire proof socks to help, cause while it\'s not touching, i\'m sure it\'s still gonna considerably shorten the life of that wire.

I use the champion race plugs that edelbrock reccomends, and theyare about 1/4\" shorter than the accel header plugs. My #1 and 2 are close like that and they have been ok for 2 years. you should be fine

they are based out of california and make headers for that type of set up... i cant afford them soo im still trying to figure something out ahaha
Soopertrouper, what are the numbers of the Champion plugs you\'re using that are 1/4\" shorter than the Accels? Are they gasketed or angle fit?

Right now I\'m running rc12yc\'s They have gaskets.
Thanks, sooper, I\'ll take an Accel to the parts place and do a comparo. The Accel is about 3/32\" shorter than the Autolite I\'m currently using. The Autolite is about 1/4\" from the header tube, leaving little room for the plug wire cap, plus I have to loosen the header to take the #1 plug out with either the Accel or Autolite.
Just for posterity\'s sake, I took my Accel 0414S to the parts store and compared it to the Champion RC12YC. The Accel was about 1/8\" shorter.

I realize that this is a old post, but for someone who is still looking at it.....
If the accel plugs everyone is talkin about are the accell header plugs, then they are alot shorter than regular plugs. I had some autolite plugs, but was having the same problem, only about 1/4 inch from the header before i put the plug boot on it. Using the accel header plugs that i got for 26 bucks and with the boot on i have about 1/2 inch or more on all my plugs.
