View Full Version : Water pump flow
Does it matter which way the water pump flows. Even tho my 68 327 came with a small water pump. I want to put on a large water pump.

the long water pump won\'t chage the direction of the flow?????????? why would ti all your doing is putting a longer pump on, you need to change all the brackets and everything, the pully\'s driving the water pump off the enigne will still rout the belt the same they\'re just be further out, remember you have to get all new brackets to make it line up
The reason y i asked. Is becasue i have been looking aroud for a good water pump and it seems there are some that are a reverse pump. I already have the brackets i need for a long water pump from a 305. I just want to make sure that even i get one that is a reverse pump that it will not cause any problems for my enigen.

what they mean by reverse pump is that they must the coolant throught the heads first then the block to try and keep the heads cooler were normal water pumps sighon up through the block and into the heads these pumps have been known to cause more wear and tear supposedly Ive never seen any results saying yay or nay so its really upto you. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

If you are using a serpentine belt system you will need the reverse flow water pump...it sounds like you are using muti-belt system so stick with standard flow pump. Reverse flow will not work

wrong ice queen again...reverse flow means that with a serptine belt systerm the way the pulleys are set up..it make\'s the pumps run in reverse of a stanard pump....the blades are piched different ...if you put a reversev flow pump on a motor with regular belts it will flow but i will run hot....truct me i found out the hard way...i put a complete 5.0 motor out of a mustang into a thunderbird ...but i changed the pulleys and used the old belts instead of the septinre and it would get hot ...

Technically, my fellow team member is half correct.. as are you http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif Which means together, you are 100% correct! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif The reverse flows ARE designed to flow through the cylinder head first, but as you stated they ARE only effective on serp. setups!
The other mistake you made was touching a FORD motor!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

I need to be more awake when I answer questions I didn\'t realize he was talking about different pully setups http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
