i got a 96 w/4.3 and the catalytic converter is def plugged. has anyone put a straight pipe on theres and put an o2 simulator on it? or is that what a o2 simulator is used for? I really want to do it the cheapest way without buying a new $150 cat!

You can just take it out, gut it and put it back in rather then replacing it with a straight pipe. Chances are its not gonna pass emissions with it gutted though, not sure how your state inspections are about that? here in NY you wouldn\'t get away with it with a 95\' and newer vehicle

A o2 sim does nothing but tell the computer that nothing is wrong and it prevents you from have a CEL. Waste of money...just take the CEL light out if your gonna go that route lol

Seriously though...ive removed many cats from my vehicles when i installed headers and bigger exhaust. If it had o2 sensors i had them weld in bungs and install them in the pipe like normal. Never threw a code!

Oh...and ive have got Magnaflow highflo cats on ebay before for 40ish bucks.

go with a high flow. like magnaflow. itll probably end up costing you the same in the end, and this way you have one there for emissions.

i know a guy that split his cat case, installed a straight pipe inside it and welded it all back up. looks just like a cat, but it is nothing more than a pipe. just a thought

No emissions testing here in Iowa yet.

should be fine with gutting the cat unless the O2 sensor is mounted behind it. be sure to wear gloves and a respirator because that stuff is toxic as hell.

i took off the cat today and gutted it. i didn\'t know there was so much screening in it! it wasnt to hard to gut it, just break it all down with a big screw driver and a hammer.

I did take my truck out for a spin with the cat off, for a open y pipe test drive and it ran like a rapped ape. i even got a 5th gear scratch, lol. good times

Its proven that noise makes your mind think your going faster. I seriously doubt it ran awesome running open exhaust. lol

give it time. eventually the tree huggers will help make your life miserable too.

here is PA the emissions test is pure bullshit. i have an emissions license and i do about 20 tests a day. its retarded.

you go through the class to get the license and they give you this bigass handbook with all the laws in it. one of the sentences starts out \"if you live in an emissions affected area...\"

emissions affected area? like its a disease?

\"if you live in a plague affected area...\"
