Hope you guys who have done a big block swap can help. I just bought a 84

reg cab long box. Remarkably rust free for the upper midwest. What luck,

the same week I got a lead on a L19 (same motor as 454ss c10\'s used in 1990).

New (actually I think it is a Goodwrench remanufactured long block) for $1K

Couldn\'t turn that down.

I\'ve done two previous S10 v8\'s. The first a low budget 84HO 305 w/2004R into

an 87 2wd, using Advance mounts. On the second the budget got lost. It is a 94

4wd with a 91 Tpi 305. complete with working a/c and cruise, using JTR mounts. It is my current driver.

Anyway, I wanted you to know that I\'m not totally ignorant of the pitfalls and endless

little details invloved.

My primary questions are exhaust manifolds (preferred) or headers to use and will my

rearend take it. I plan to use a 4l80E with the new manual shift kit. Possibly a 700r4.

I have a pair of Advance mounts to use.

Any suggestions or warnings will be appreciated.

Thanks,

JayDee

Wow, I\'ll leave this one to the experts because I honestly don\'t know much about big block swaps, but I just wanted to say that you got a great deal on the engine and good luck!

i know that 4more has done a bb swap...i am in the middle of doing mine ....i am going to make a custom sterring shaft for mine ...i have already test fitted it....the big block really fit\'s better than a 350 due to the height of the exaust port\'s...you can use manifold\'s as seen in 4more\'s pictures...but im having a chromemoly custom sharft made for mine and i am using a set of hedmen headers ...they are a shortie style header with 1 7/8 tubes with a 3in collector...part number 68610...they are 126.00 from p.a.w....they drop right in...every thing else is the same...i think i will get a new radiator and i will have to set it in the core support for more room....if i knew that it was this easy i would have never spent the money that i did on my old 350..

Thanks for the reply which was definately encouraging. I was hoping this wouldn\'t be the nightmare the 4wd-a/c-4wheel ab-tpi swap I did last year was.

What kind of radiator you thinking about using. I still have in my barn a notched radiator support from an old conversion where i tucked the original 2.8 rad into the support and used some 1-1/2 inch copper tubing to get the water to the right side on the bottom. It worked fine for a 305. This might need a little bigger one. What do you think of griffins; will they handle the 454 and are they easy or tough to install? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I\'ll have to notch out the crossmember for an 8qt. pan. and also cut a very large hole in the hood. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
