I have a vortec 400 small block with A/C, engine looks to be around 350-400hp and I want to know how I can keep this thing cool. I was originally thinking of keeping my 4.3L rad, and sticking two 12\" sucker fans on it. Do you think this will work? What would you do?

Gent001, If you installed the engine about an inch rearward and pushed the radiator farward a little, there should be enough room for a Tarus fan. The Tarus fan can be trimmed down to under 4\" and is offset mounted in a shroud. The fan is two speed, low and high. Wire two relays, one for each speed. Have two temp switchs set one to kick in early, about 170. Have the second speed come in at 180. This will reduce the surge many people see by wiring the fan on high only. The fan pulls 4000CFM. This fan is great if you can fit it. The shroud measures about 17\" by the fan, which is 2\" more than your 15\" core. The little overlap is Ok. The width is about 22\" on your 26\" core. You you can see how you can install the fan to one side and make it work. The charging system will have to be up to the task. High speed runs at 31 amps, takes more to start. Keep the 4.3 radiator and use the oil coolers installed in the radiator. This set up will work. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I agree with the radiator. I have always used a stock 4.3 rad with every engine combo I ever had and never had any troubles. From 400 hp street motors to 650 hp race motors. I wouldnt use anything else.

I don\'t have much room between the rad and the accessories because the motor has to be left in the standard position because I am using sanderson headers with a 3\" body lift. If I move the motor back any, the top of the steering shaft will rub on the header tubes.
Sounds like my options are very limited http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif

Gent001, The next option is to more the radiator and the condensor forward. This is a site to assist moving the rad and cond forward. (http://users.apex2000.net/whardie/aircond.html) This is the best option you have for now. The parts used in his install may be a little different, but you get the picture. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Looks like I\'m going to keep the 4.3 rad, and move the rad and condenser forward a bit to make room for the electric puller fans. Thanks guys.

Here is the ebay page for that superior radiator. This may help with your room situation but also a chunk of change but I think is well worth the money.

I like that radiator. The cap position is mounted farther back so you don\'t have to bury it under the support. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
