I am going to get Gibson exhaust when the time comes, which will be better, Aluminized or Stainless Steel(T304)?

stainless lasts forever. aluminized is coated steel. aluminized=rust

No doubt that stainless is better for the long run---IF you have the vehichle that long. I personally would\'nt pay for the stainless because of unforeseen things down the road. No reason a regular good quailty system should\'nt last at least 5 years around here.

yea, stainless is nice. no doubt. you could easily get away with aluminized down there. i\'m up here in the rust belt and i run aluminized pipe. its been under the truck for the better part of the last 5 -6 years and its still in great shape. one trick is to let the rear main seal leak like it does on all chevys. as you drive the oil coats the exhaust and gets baked on. no rust.

Exactly my thoughts. In the past 10 years, I\'ve changed the exhaust completely 3 different times. The aluminized stuff never got a chance to get \"old\". http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

BTW, did you actually hear the Gibson mufflers you want? Are all Gibsons glasspaks? Reason I ask, a guy I know has Gibsons on a stock truck. Most silly (glasspak) sound I\'ve ever heard. To me, Flowmasters and clones have the \"sound\".

Ok, we all have our preferences on exhaust, but I cant stand a Flowmaster muffler sound. The Gibson sounds better IMHO! But that\'s why there are so many choices. Listen to as many as you can & decide for yourself. As for aluminized or stainless, your pocket will make that one clear. Are you happy with the truck & dont plan any changes, go for the stainless. If the answer is no, then go with the cheaper one for now. Also, most exhaust rust starts from the inside out, not outside in. Short trips will rot them out faster. Keep that in mind. Also, an oil covered exhaust wont stop the normal rust failure pattern. The best thing is have the system done right! I see exhaust on a lot of trucks that I wonder how someone had the balls to charge money for such a poorly done job. Cut & hacked up, poor welds, leaks & big decreases in tubing size on a brand new truck with a receipt in the glove box for big $$$ and cheap materials. Be specific what you want and check the work when it is done.

$65 dollar difference between stainless and aluminized.

Yes I did listen to the Gibson exhaust, and I like it. Not to my knowledge that its a glasspack....sure didn\'t sound like one.

Thanks guys for your input!
