Power problem, or pump problem? It\'s an 8 yr. old Holley Black pump.
So my old truck failed me the other day, had to walk a half mile home. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif I was cruising along, then nothing. Coasted into a parking lot. WTF? Realized I didn\'t hear the pump running. Hmmm. No meter or test light, so I couldn\'t do much.
........... About 2 hours later I get back to it, start checking things out, still not working. Check the power OK here, OK there, get inside try it again, I think I hear the pump, then louder, and louder, it working. Took maybe 5 o more seconds to come up to speed. That was weird, normally it\'s buzzing away instantly.
............ So, was it a bad connection somewhere, or the old pump giving up? Any ideas?
BTW, the circuit consists of a fuse block, Bosch relay, and a floor mounted toggle switch.

I have to ask, Do you have a fuel return line plumbed in? If the pump is dead on pressure to the regulator, then it gets hotter than normal operation. The return line allows the fuel passing through to help cool the pump. The only thing comes to mind is heat soak. Just like a starter too close to a header and you can\'t crank the motor. This is caused from the electrical windings overheating and binding up. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Even if it isn\'t the pump Scotty, I think you got your moneys worth out of that one. Might be a good idea to replace it just to update. How do you have the relay hooked up? Is your switch powering the relay coil or grounding it? Maybe contacts in the relay getting bad? I hate intermittent problems. Hard to trace.

Ain\'t that the truth. Can\'t fix what ain\'t broke. And yeah, maybe it\'s time to spring for a new pump. But I\'m of Scottish heritage, so I hate to cough up the dough. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
........... Regarding the wiring, maybe I\'ll post a pic of my schematic if I get the chance. But basically, the ignition switch powers the relay, ground is constant. I\'m thinking I\'ll replace the relay AND the toggle switch, and check the ground on the pump, as well as all the other connections in the circuit.
.......... Melonhead, good point about the fuel flow. In the past, I\'ve considered doing just as you mentioned. But considering it isn\'t actually getting it done. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif I know I should. And if I did, I\'d put some sort of restiction in the return line so in the summer, I wouldn\'t blow all my chilled \"Cool Can\" gas back into the tank. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Lets try this:
This is a schematic I drew up recently for someone. It is not exactly as my S-15 is wired, but very similar. The actual schematic for my truck is written on the back of a bar napkin. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
Auto Schematic (http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s267/Scotty_S-15/AutoSchematic4a.jpg)
I have a question. I have a holley red pump in my truck, I have it wired to 12 volt power and its just on a toggle switch. Is it bad I don\'t have a relay in there. I unfarmiliar with relays so I\'m just wondering if i\'ll have problems the way I have it setup.

the problem is that all the amperage has to run through the switch. it might burn out the contacts in youir switch quicly.
