as long as you use the edelbrock intake and controller any carb will work

What do you mean \"fuel injection\" heads?

$500 doesn\'t sound bad, but did you know that GM is selling KILLER LS2 heads for $800 per PAIR new? They\'re supposed to outflow CNC/ported Hi Perf LS1 heads out of the box. BUT, must have a 4\" bore engine, otherwise the big valves got no where to go.http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif These heads are stock on 2007 Escalades.

the controller fires the coils and constantly monitors and regulates timing.

these engines dont have distributors so you have to buy the edelbrock set up to run a carb

Or, GM now makes a special (not cheap) front cover that is set up for a distributor. Yeah, in front. What kind of distributor you ask? Why a Ford distributor, or course. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

......... Although not cheap either, I think I\'d follow Rudedogg\'s suggestion.

$500 is not cheap really. You can get standard LS1 heads for about $100-200, you can get LS6/2 heads for about $400 and the truck 6.0 heads (same posrts as a ls6 but with larger chamners) for about $300. I have a set of cnc ported LS6 heads with upgraded springs, titanium retainers, etc that flow over 300cfm that I only paid $1000 for.

not to be a dick but WHY ON EARTH would you take a step backwards in technology and get rid of an efficient fuel injection set up capable of WAY more power at all rpms, not just WOT and ditch it for carb?

just doesn\'t make sense to me.

A carbed LS1 will make more total power than all but the very top injection systems. The carbed intake is so good that even some injected guy use it. I believe even one of the magazines tested carb Vs inection back to back on a GenIII and made like 20 more HP.

on the street its more fun to have the power thoughout the rpm range not just near/at WOT. who cares about bragging rights with some number. just because you have a big number you can brag about doesn\'t necessarily mean your fast. plus with gas prices these days carb\'s don\'t make much sense.

EDIT: sorry for hijacking the thread. im an F.I. guy with a bug up my ass about carb\'s. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

ok ok ok ok you two, this was a question for something I could puchase and make it work. I wasnt trying to start a battle of opinions, or test of knowledge. but more so help, and i really appreciate it. Thank u G

you are kidding about the power,RIGHT!

carb makes about 10-15hp more

efi makes about 25-30 lb-ft tq more

lets do the math,TQ is king at the small hp loss its waaaay worth it to be efi,not to even mention the fuel mileage....

As a reformed Carboholic, I have to side with the FI gang here. I DON\'T miss those cold mornings pumping & side stepping the right foot until she\'s warm!

Regarding the carb vs. FI thing, let\'s face it, they each have their advantages.

* Stock FIs on stock engines are the cats meow. Carbs cannot even begin to measure up regarding driveability and efficiency.

* Fitting up a modified FI engine into a different chassis with different harnesses ain\'t no Saturday afternoon job. Whipping a manifold and carb IS a Saturday afternoon job, and most importantly, a no-brainer. The FI installation is something that requires a lot of thought and research. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif I just hate that. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

* Carbs will generally make more power on a dyno. I can\'t understand why, makes no sense to me, but that\'s what all the experts tell us. Maybe it\'s the evaporative/cooling effect of the carb/fuel? Nah, I guess that effect is minimal.

I was speaking about the LSx engines only. The fact is the carbed manifolds make much more power, sometimes to the tune of 50hp+ even on an injected car. The selection of good manifolds for injected GenIIIs are small and not that great. I run a FAST maniflod and they routinely go for $900+ used with a throttle body, and a carb manifold converted to EFI will still make much more power, especially on high powered vehicles.
