Okay I am so lost it isn\'t even funny.
I still dont\' have headlights in the truck. I changed the headlamp switch, didn\'t help.
Checked power to the switch, nothing.
Checked power to the interior/dash dimmer, no power.
Checked the grounds on the headlights, in tact, seem to work. Checked for power to the lights, still nothing.
The strangest thing happened tho....started the truck up, noticed when I turned the headlamp switch on, both turn signal indicators come on solid. If I turn a signal on, it still flashes, and the other one stays solid. If I turn the switch off, indicator lights go off.
I am not sure what to check....do I have a short, a disconnect, or did someone cross wires somewhere????

Are all the plugs connected to the column? I didn\'t have headlights for 2 years. All my other lights worked except for the headlights. Changed my column out and noticed a plug that was not plugged in. Plugged it in to the new column and I have headlights. The plug was a rectangle one on the drives side of the column, by the brake light switch.

i think you have a head lamp crossed with turn signal at fuse panel.pull wires for head lamps out and then label. then pull turn signals out and label and test with spare battery. see what you get.. G

just an idea you may have two different problems.
1.) the indicators on my truck did the same thing with the indicators both on on the dash. I removed the cluster and found that the plug on the back was not clipped all the way and the copper tabs crossed and I also had a bad spot on the printed circuit board.( i think was because the tabs to the plug where crossed)
2) if you have no power to your headlamps a quick test to make sure all your power side items are ok is do whats called a bypass.
find a good source of power that is hot all the time and make a small splice on the back of the head lamp switch to the wire that is supposed to have the power and turn the switches on. you should have lights unless you also have a ground problem ( which I know you stated you didn\'t)

Okay here is a little bit of an update. I am not the brightest person in the world when it comes to electrical work.
Here are a few pictures I could use some help with, not sure if any of these are related to my light problem. Or if any of them are actually problems...
1st one - this is a loose cable under the dash, but I cannot find where it connects too...
<hr width='200'><img src='images/jpg.gif'>: <a href="http://s10v8.com/members/AF-s10/DSC00165.JPG" BORDER="0" target=_blank><font size="-2">image will open in new window</font></a><hr width='200'>
2nd one - drivers side over the fenderwell....what is this, and is the extra one there for a reason?
<hr width='200'><img src='images/jpg.gif'>: <a href="http://s10v8.com/members/AF-s10/DSC00163.JPG" BORDER="0" target=_blank><font size="-2">image will open in new window</font></a><hr width='200'>
Last one..... this is a random loose wire by the passenger side headlight...should it be connected to anything????
<hr width='200'><img src='images/jpg.gif'>: <a href="http://s10v8.com/members/AF-s10/DSC00162.JPG" BORDER="0" target=_blank><font size="-2">image will open in new window</font></a><hr width='200'>
Sorry for so many questions, I am just hoping to do this myself, I just need help understanding the electrical side...

In your 2nd picture, those are relays. The one with the orange, green, black, and purple wires is for your fuel pump I think. I\'m not sure what the 2nd one is for. My truck had 2 of those, but I ended up replacing the whole wiring harness and the newer harness only had the 1 for the fuel pump. Your 3rd picture looks like the drivers side, not the passenger side. If that\'s the case, I think the green wire you have hanging there gets plugged into your horn. The first picture I\'m not sure of, but that looks to me like one that should plug into the park/neutral safety switch located on the steering column, but again, I\'m not positive there. I had a similar problem as you\'re having with the lights and turn signals. I finally got my headlights working, and that turned out to be a missing ground from the headlights to the radiator support. I have yet to get my turn signals working, but I suspect the problem lies with the fact that after I did my swap and all my other playing with the wiring, I found my flasher laying on the floor and have yet to find the damn plug for it.

If it helps, Jimmy, my flasher plugged into the fuse block - near the bottom if I remember right. I think it might have been marked, too.

On my truck at least, the flasher on the fuse block is for the hazards. I have an 89 right now, I had a 93, and on the 93, the flasher for the hazards was on the fuse block too, but the one for the signals was a little bit above the e-brake release behind a dash pannel. On the 89, there is something else there, something different all together, but definitely not a turn signal flasher.

i chased a headlight problem for a while. i had two problems. the ground on the frame by the rear lights was rusted off and for some strange reason the system wouldnt work without the plate lite bulbs in and working.

AF-s10,
Have you confirmed there\'s power at the fuse for the headlights? If not, start there and trace your way back to the battery. Also, is the fuse good or not?
There are two large gauge red wires that attach to the alternator. Make sure they\'re still connected. I helped a guy out a while back after he did replaced head gaskets, the truck wouldn\'t start but he could use the radio and aother accessories. The ring terminal for one of these wires was missing.

I will check on this tonight, I took a few day break, I was thoroughly frustrated at the truck, for more then one reason. I will check that, I remember losing a fusible link on my 94 blazer, and I couldn\'t start it. I never thought to check the reverse. Now here is my other dumb question of the day...which fuse is the one for headlights? I picked up a new light to check the circuits over the weekend, so with any luck I can get some lights....

arggggg.....this truck is gonna drive me bonkers....is there a reason why I would have no power going to the crank, and the 3 left most fuses? I lighted all of them, except the 3 amp crank, and then the 3 on the left most side. Is there a way to pull the fuse block off the body so I can actually see all the spots and check all the connections???

this may sound stupid but make sure your lights on left and on right side have ground wires connected to frame....and also that you have a ground strap from frame to >>motor<<..

theres a little screw on the wiring harness under the hood for the back side of the fuse panel. pull that out then the panel itself is held in with 4 clips.
if i remember right the crank fuse is only gonna show hot while cranking.
