i am starting the conversion in april during spring break. i have a driveway but no garage to store the work when it rains or at night. if anybody else has this experience let me in on anything you know about doing the conversion in a driveway.

well i have been in this situation befor with other projects so...i would think if you could remove the front clip swap out the old and in the new and get the clip back on would be the best way to keep the weather and picky noisey neibors out of your way.which if you have all or most of your parts ahead of time and dont spend alot of time cleaning and painting the engine compartment you could do in a day with out to much trouble. good luck maybe buy a big dog and chain it to the truck at night lol

I was in the same boat you can look at my pictures in the gallery I bought a high quality tarp to make sure no watter would build up. you can even rent those tent style garages and set it up around the truck it would allow you to even work in the rain.

the best thing to do is have all your parts ready before you even start.that way you can start assembly immediatly;mounts, headers, starter, trans and converter, radiator, transline tubing, beer, lots of oildry, beer, shifter, assorted hammers(necessary)oh ya,and some beer http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

i just took the hood off left the rest of the clip on... then when i was done working on it fo0r the day i just set the hood back into place, it kept things nice and dry under the hood, as liong as there isn\'t a huge strom goes by then it\'s fine, my conversion only took me about 3 days, that was including changing my gastank and everythingi even put the engine tranny in togather with the rad support on, it took a little bit of wigglin but it went in basically no problem, so have fun and be sure to get lots of pictures

well when i do my next project i will be doing mine outside. from what i have heard though it doesnt sound too bad.
what did you guys use for hoisting the engine in and out? my father had an engine lift when i did my last engine job. but for my next projecti may not have that available. did anyone do the conversion with out a engine hoist?

u might b able to rent a hoist. i looked into it around here it is like 40.00 a day. what a rip. if u know somebody u might b able to ask them to borrow it. take ur truck and pick it up. then when u are all done take it back in your truck to show them that u got it done. thats what i might do

its nice to live out in the woods...i have s10 sh#t scattered everywhere. My garage is half inside and out. its a carport with one side covered to the ground, the other side is against the house and the two ends are open... but hey it\'s florida!!!
would never even think of taking a motor out or puttin one in without a cherry picker...the thing will pay for itself in no time...
used it on all three below...

I got my hoist for 145$ Canadian and it does 4 tons I even used it to lift the bed off when I did the fuel pump swap and used it to lift the front of the truck off the ground when I was doing exhaust and other work on the underside if you do this make sure its secure and put blocks under your wheels!
I also got an engine level adjuster to go with thew hoist it allows you to angle your engine any way you want at any time so you can get it in easier!
