Getting ready to do the bodywork on my 91 model longbed. I replaced the bad cab corner and it looks good but I have some serious surface rust at the bottom of the doors. Nothing going through but I need to stop the rust so I can prep for paint. Thanks in advance. Dave http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Come on, I was thinking more along the line of something to keep the rust from coming back, Like maybe something from Eastwood. Someone out there has used their stuff, How did it work? Dave http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

I\'ve used the por-15 system with good results. I\'ve never used it on the body. I did the frame on my trailer about 5 years ago, still looks good.

dave,
The only way to get rid of rust is to blast the area, then you can coat it with som rust treatment. Most good auto parts or auto paint stores handle the right stuff. I\'ve used extend rust treatment with good results. The P.O.R.-15 (paint over rust) works very well. I have an aquaintenced that used it on his motor home at least 5 years ago and he says it still looks like the day he brushed it on. Just follow the directions to the T. Tyler

If it is on the outside I wouldn\'t put POR-15 on it. I don\'t know how you would paint over that stuff. Sand blast the rust off and use a quality epoxy sealer to keep it from coming back. Careful when you blast, you can easily warp your body panel or door skin. If you use rattle can stuff, then you have to remove it or put a sealer on before you paint the truck anyway. So you might as well put the sealer on now. If you know what brand of paint you are going to use to paint the truck eventually use that brand of sealer. If you are not looking at repainting the truck just want to stop the rust, use American Finishes epoxy primer and sealer. It is cheap and works pretty good for all but a show paint job.

Dave , I noticed that you live in Ky, So theres not a big problem with rust there, Do what Grim said with the blasting and use a epoxy primer over the bare metal then do your bodywork if needed over that, Then use a 2k primer over that.
You shouldn\'t have any problems with rust after that.

.TO YORU question..TRY a POR-15 starter kit,or look at their website, it\'s pretty extensive and helpful, if you order something from them they\'ll send you a catalog...look through it...they have some stuff that will work on the body too...i used it religiously on the frame of my s10...brackets...sway bar...etc.....
Not a big problem with rust in kentucky huh. do you think it\'s like vegas here or something...i live right across the bridge in indiana....rust is a problem...come on down here for some snow in the winter and let the road crews throw some salt your way, then watch as the weather clears up and the roads are all nice and white with salt residues etc... all over it, then wake up to a nice 75 degree summer morning with the humidity at 100 percent almost and 30% chance of rain, let some of that water set into your trucks frame paint body etc.....anyways...kentucky...midwest..indiana..mid west...all types of weather..but NOT DRY...rust is a problem here..is ky and IN no in the rust belt...anyways

The POR-15 can be topcoated while it is still tacky. Works great. Can be thinned and sprayed also. Many a good bodyman/restobuff swears by this stuff, including me. It\'s a MUST in KY,IN,OH,IL,MI, anywhere up there. I grew up there, I have even seen the grass rust in the summer...Bad news..
