I was just thinking the same thing I don\'t think it would be very hard. I\'ve been thinking about using a mustang II rack (non power). Now I just need to see if I can find a ford tierod end that is the same size as the ones on ours S10 or figure out away to adapt a S10 one to the ford threads on the rack. I only thought of this Friday so I haven\'t done alot of research yet. Let me know what ideas you have came up with.

i heard the ty-sy guys do this and am waiting to see some pics of it from a friend we will get some posted

i noticed the steering shaft would need to be really modified. well today i was working on a gm minivan the racks on them have a long pinion shaft i thought this might be nice to get up above the frame more so the steering shaft wouldnt need to \"drop \" so much

just a thought

If you guys switch to rack and pinion never drive offroad because the gearing in them just wont stand upto the beating and if your really thinking of going non powered I think your nuts http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Thow if you can get a truck rack and pinion you should be ok they mack them for the chevy avalanche and a few others.. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I think there hoping they can get quicker steering but I cant see much of a difference its better to just get a ZQ8 steering box.

No I’m wanting to free up space in the engine compartment. And shed weight. Plus I want unpowered because I don\'t want to hang a pump on my engine.Thats why I started with a nonpower steering truck to begin with. All the GM racks that I\'m aware of are rear mount. Were the mustang rack mounts in the front and could hook to the same place as the stock tie rods. And of course my truck wouldn\'t be used off road because its only purpose will be for cruising and drag racing. Not a daily driver . Just another to

I would sugest staying with the manual steering box, it only weighs about 20 pounds. I think with the fabrication it will take to get the rack and pinion put in there you would equal the weight.

I was wanting to use a front face plate to mount my engine and the box is in the way. Plus now that it seems like nobody else is doing this it makes it more interesting, Always like to do something different then what everybody else is doing. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif But it will probably be a couple more months before I\'m able to get the frame in the garage and get it tore apart and take a closer look.

first off all the new 2wd chevy full size have it the new full size vans have it and i just think it would be cool i believe it would also funtion better but mainly because it would be different than most peoples s10s that makes it fun once apon a time a v8 in a s10 was different and cool now there every where but still cool

as far as no power steering most the hot rods i have built dont get it maybe a huge station wagon or something but a s10 with little tires nah i like the feel NO POWER STEERING AND A SPOOL that my kind of toy just me though nothing wrong with power steering my daily driver has it and a/c also http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
