I have looked through past posts, but I did not see how to determine which rear end I have. I know it\'s an open 3:73, as per axle code stamped on the right tube. My question is, how do I determine what housing I have? My rig is a \'92 Ext cab w/ 2.8 and a 5 speed. I also have a posi carrier w/out ring. I have no idea what it\'s out of. I was told S-10, but what one was unknown. Is there a way to find out what it out of?

i found this post on here but il lstill check the service manual toamrrow
you get the 7 5/8 in the 93 s10 2.8 also, not just the 4.3. but when you get it in the 2 wheel drive it only has 3.42 in it. i swaped them for 3.73 and it took more than a second of my e.t. well anyways any 2 wheel drive older than the 93 had a 7.5 in it. but if you want just take the 7.5 out and put a 7 5/8 in the housing the housings are the same.

didn\'t 7.625 start in 88??? my truck is a 87 and it was a 7.5, 3.42 posi untill the pinion decided that it was gunna shatter into about a million peices.... i got one out of a 90 s-10 and it\'s a 7.625 open diff but i put a minispool and 4.11 richmond gears in it, and also won;t the 7.625 carrier bolt into a 7.5 housing as long as you get the 28 spline axels instead of the 26 spline axels from the 7.5?
