This may seem like a dumb question but when I replaced the intake gaskets I marked the distributor but by the time I had gotten back to putting it back together due to other complications my marks were warn off. So to make a long story short when I put it back together it didnt even run so I moved it 2 teeth and it runs and idles fine but I know its not correct becuase I can move the distributor alittle bit one way or the other and it makes a huge difference in the power. Now what I was wondering was how I go about tuning this becuase I know there is a sensor that need to be unhooked in order for me to tune this and I cant seem to find the factory specs for this motor eaither it came from a 2000 Yukon. I put a timing lite on it and it apears to be about an inch below the timing mark on the motor and no mater how far I twist the distributor cap the line dosnt move as if something is compinsating for it?

Thank You

2hype, Sounds like you have a little mess. Is the engine EFI? If it is, there is a wire brn/tan that has to be disconnected for you to time the engine. That wire eliminates the computer involvement will you setup the base timing. The distributor may be close, but not sure it is set right. The only way to check is TDC #1 and check you rotor and cap alignment.

that wire is normally under the dash by the passengers feat. it is a seperate wire from all the others. has about a 2" black plug.

Yeah unfortunalty I can only see half of the rotor and distributor now that the motor is in so I cant tell if its all ligned up. I thought I had it lined up perfectly before I put it in but once it was in and I turned the key it wasnt even close. So I move it one tooth dropped the distributor back in and put the cap back on and it runs fine and idles and shuts off fine but I know its not exactly set correctly yet. I had read about that wire that I need to unhook but in all the reading some say its in the engine bay and some say its under the dash and in both places there are 100s of wires so I was just hoping someone knew were they were on the 1998S10s but as far as I know the V8 computer is now running the engine and my V6 computer is only needed for the chassie harness because the stock V6 engine harness is tied into the V6 chassie harness so I have both PCs in my engine bay so I dont know if its something with the V8 computer that needs to be unhooked like a knock sensor or if its going to be in the V6 computer and I have to disconnect the under dash brown/tan wire if what ever sensor that went to is even doing anything anymore?

Thanks Guys

Hype2, since you have the new v8 computer the wires are not in the orginal location. The only way to find it is by chasing it. The brown/tan wire will run from the distributor to the computer. You need to find the original break point or create your own. The easiest way would be at the distributor end, cut the wire and install bullet connectors. Use a section of the harness that has slack. The wire you are chasing will be one of the 4 from the drivers side plug on the distributor. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

dont know if this helps but helps but when i installed my TPI, I had to use the small dist with remote coil. Wiring is same but different connector.
