I have a taker for my 2.8, but he was told that a second generation 2.8 will not fit into a first generation. Last I knew, the frame and mounts where the same. But what do I know. Has anyone else heard this story before? 92 P/U motor into 85 Blazer 4X4.

hey ive been here befor somewhere around 1987 they changed the 2.8 they went from internal balance to external\"weights on the frywheel\" they also changed the oil pan lips and front timing covers.and switched from regular belt to serpitine belt. BUT if you switch complete engine assemblies you have no problem the trucks are the same the engine mounts and all that are the same just parts are not interchangable. i put a 86 2.8 in a 88 s10 i changed the hole thing including belts and everything i did make one mistake and used the 88 flexplate on the 86 engine it had major vibration i had to pull the trans and swap to a 86 or older flexplate so it was balanced properly so it should work fine just use the right parts lol

87 is a year alll of it\'s own boy\'s, i found that out the hard way trying to find parts for my truck, they changed a lot of the parts again in 88 from 87 but they changed 87 from 86, so 87 is one year all of it\'s own and only 87 parts work on 87\'s it\'s really lame, 87 was when they started making major changes for the 4.3 too, the trans tunnel is actually a little bit bigger on the 97 than the 86 for clearance of the 4.3 even though the 4.3 wasn\'t put in untill 88... thats just some stuff i\'ve run across
