I pulled my 305 heads apart today to check valves and seals and how things looked. Well came across some valves didnt even have seals. Some of the valves had some type of 0 ring just above the seal. Can someone tell what it is and do I need them on there when I put new seals on it?

the o-rings were meant to seal the bottom of the retainer so oil doesn't pour down the valves. I always throw them away and use umbrella seals that slip on top of the guides.

but don't use the teflon seals as they break easily and are junk.

Yep. The early SBCs relied on that O-ring and the sheet metal umbrella that went between the valve spring and retainer.

I got what I thought was the correct gasket set. I thought the heads were 86 but they are 75-81 heads. gasket set fro 81-86. intake are black rubber type with metal rings on them, exhaust are see-thru tanish seals. at least i think that what they are. o rings came with the kit too. exhaust dont even tighten on valve guides towers like the intake do.
