No matter how hard you try you can't quite explain what it is like when a nitro car goes down the track. Not only do you hear it.. you feel it. Glad you had a good time.

That's the way I describe the sensation to someone who's never had the experience. I mean, a deaf person would duck for cover. It feels like someone is pounding your chest. Niiiice!
........... Could you imagine DRIVING one of those monsters? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

JoePodnar, now that you've got ME all pumped up, http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif this might be a good time to share these facts I had saved away. Dunno where they came from, maybe someone on this site posted this a while back?

DRAG RACING FACTS ... INTERESTING
Author: TODD LEWIS Date: 11/25/2005 1:39:35 PM
Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence.
- One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500.
- Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitromethane per second;
- A fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.
- A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster supercharger.
- With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.
- At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitromethane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F.
- Nitromethane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.
- Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.
- Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.

I took my 15 year old son to a Night of fire event here at my local track (Milan Dragway), that was about 7 or 8 years ago. We stood behind the starting line, along the fence. The sound & feeling in your chest... He still talks about that experience. They had the Jet cars, wheel stand cars, and Top Fuelers. What a blast! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

i'll be in the same boat as you, joepodnar. i am going to the thunder valley nationals this weekend. it will be my first big event. i have been to nmra, nmca, orsca, and sportsman series events, but i think seeing the top fuelers run will be a whole nother experience.

Hey 91xcabpro, just make sure you get there early so you can walk thru the pits and watch them working on these things. Then you can also here em fire up, I was 2 feet away listening to them burp the throttle!!! I was wondering why they all had gas masks and ear plugs? WIMPS.
