Anyone here running this fan? Are there 2 windings in that motor (3 terminals on the motor) for high/low and use 2 relays for control or do u have to use a fan controller like the Lincoln MK8 fan requires?

The JTR book says 14A/low and 31A/high.

You dont have to use a controller on the MK8. It can be set for one speed (HIGH). There is no fan out there that i\'ve seen that can pull air like it can either. That thing will suck in pets and small childern if you dont watch it.LMAO. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif If I ever find a way to make the MK8 fit its going in. Bad thing is that it pulls like 40 amps or something close to that. You need at least a 130 amp alternator.

but can you run a automatic temp sensor so it comes on by itself as it reaches a determined temp as well?

The taurus fan and the Mark VIII fan use the same motor... I was told that it\'s an actual 1/2 hp motor!!! Anywayz, the older style MarkVIII fan (up to 96) were the highest rated fans I know of, a guy on the Corral (http://www.corral.net) tested his and it pulled 5000cfm on the flow meter that his local Fire Department uses to test their evacuation fans. The newer style have less of a pitch in the vanes for less noise and they \"only\" flow 4500cfm. That\'s the one I have.
I had to get a 130 amp alternator, use a 75amp relay (from Bosch) to run it as the fan pulls nearly 80amps on startup and somewhere around 30amps continuous draw. Also with my MarkVIII I didn\'t set it up with a high and low speed, high speed was it.
Yeah you can set it up on a temp switch, just be sure to wire it all up before the relay so it trips the relay and not the fan. The switch will burn up on the first use if you don\'t. I have my MarkVIII on a manual 20amp switch that runs the relay....just keep a good eye on the temp is all.
Go here (http://www.geocities.com/smithmonte/Auto/MarkVIII_Fan.htm) for everything you ever wanted to know about wiring it up. Think of the Taurus fan as a baby Mark VIII fan.
Any more help just ask.

My question is why the JTR manual refers to this fan as having 2(two) speeds? The same (MKVIII) fan uses a sophisticated speed controller in the Lincoln. There are 3 ways to reduce the speed of the fan-->
1-Use a very large dropping resistor(~1ohm/200W)=inefficient/dirty/nasty but
that\'s how the Taurus does it. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
2-A high current PWM controller.
3-An IGBT current limiter(working on this one.)
There\'s no replacement for displacement!
