What kind of heads do you have? My have some clearance issues with 1.7's. May be better to put a 100 to 150 shot on it.

I've got a friend with a 5.0 mustang with a stock bottom end and like 150k on the odometer and he's been running a 150 shot for the last 3 seasons with no problems. Whats your comp ratio? I think you'll be fine as long as you stay conservative.

how are you only going 13's w/ a 406, get better heads you should be in the low 11's w/ a 406 w/ good heads. i have a 406 w/ steel race heads and im running like 11.35

Another thing about swapping rockers: If the heads are a little old & tired, changing lift (via rockers OR cam) can create problems besides the obvious valve to piston clearances, coil bind, etc.

............ And that is that the valve stems can have varnish/junk built up on them, and can hang up. Sure they probably wear themselves in pretty quick, but it only takes one little hiccup to create a disaster.

truck ran exactly 60ft was 1.82 1/8 was 8.29 at 83.39 and 13.002 at 104.98 carb seems fine I cant see messing with it anymore maybe Im wrong but guys say different springs for the vac. secondaires, different squiters, it runs so dam smooth no bog, no nothing. VERY responsive. I thought springs, squiters. if I start changing all that I fear it will run worse. I thought changing those was to get a good running carb .and it does it seems flawless

Messing with the vacuum secondary springs almost can't hurt you. And like I mentioned in your other post, Since the truck is probably lighter than the average vehicle, you can take advantage of the secondaries opening a little earlier than what was be designed into the carb.

............ Were it me, I'd get one of those quick change kits and mess with it from there. The worse that can happen is the secondaries open too soon, causing a slight bog. If so, with the quick change lid, you can change it back in like 2 minutes.

............. But it's been my experience that with the S-10s light weight, and any kind of a healthy motor, you might want to start our with the second lightest, or maybe even the very lightest spring.

After the fact:

Doesn't the Street Avenger already have the quick-change secondary canister? That'd be handy.

I'd make the carb adjustments first. Do one thing at a time with the carb and if it doesn't do faster or slows down, you can always change it back. Try pink cam in the #2 position with a larger squirter first and see if your 60ft time gets better. I got 10 bucks says it will.

The 1.6 or 1.7 rockers probably won't help much. The stock heads don't really show an increase in flow past .500. If you just have to do it, put the 1.6s on the intake side only and see how it responds. You could pocket port the heads. I'd opt for an inexpensive set if heads from a reputable company like Dart, World, Summit, or maybe Competition Products.

Yeah, but you said it all-VORTEC HEADS- he has probably got a set of 487 castings. They aint gonna do but so much.

Personally I'd go for a little bit of carb tuning, and then a gear change. If you have like a 3.42 or something then a 3.73 or 4.10 gear should help you alot. Of course a set of heads will do you the most good, BUT I know how the budgets go. Took me a long time to piece mine together.

What about a converter? Is it matched to your gear and engine combo?

Good luck Stroker1

Possibly run 100 shot with a ramp up controller to save your motor and WOT only switch.......
