I just bought a brand new holley 3310 and istalled it on my truck and it has a hesitation and back fires through the carb every now and then. I have played with the mixture screws and it has not helped. When i drive it it gets to about 4,000 RPM and acts like it runs out of gas. Anybody out there have an idea? I think it might be fuel pressure but the regulator is set at 7PSI. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

I had similar problems with my 3310. I had to jet it down. I think i was using a set of 71 or 72 jets. It sounds like your bowls are not set high enough. You should set them to where they are just under the site hole. Just to where its almost dribbling out the hole.

It also sounds kinda like the timing is not right. Did you hook up your vacuum advance back up? Also the new carb may draw more vacuum than the old one and the timing will need to be set to compensate for it.

Just some things to check.

I also have or had a 3310, I now have the proform body. But I did have the same problem and I had to step from 72 jet to a 77 that was after I made sure the bowls were set perfect. After I turned the mixture screws in till I heard it struggle and then out till it smoothed out.

My advance is hooked up. I will retime it and play with the jets and see what happens. I had a 600 holley on it and had 68 jets in it and it was getting to much fuel. If i put 72 jets in the 750 won\'t it drown out like with the 600. The thing that baffels me is that it acts like it runs out of gas. I am useing the stock electric pump. Maybe it can\'t keep up with the regulator.

I went through a problem a couple years ago with a 66 Chevelle. What I did was put on the a Holley pump and check the fuel lines which had 30 years worth of crap in it, blew them out and also made sure the pick up in the tank was alright.

After the lines were clean and the pick up was deep in the tank and the pump was on it, regulated to 7lbs never had another problem till the aluminum heads went on which is a whole other story.

Just like i thought. When you said it was firing through the carb i knew it had to have something to do with the timing. Firing through the carb is too much advance and if it is popping in the exhaust its too far retarted. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Glad you got it fixed....Now like the rest of us, go break something else.LOL
