I was under the truck today and noticed that the bottom bell housing bolt was missing. So I was going to pull the next one out to see what I needed for a replacement and that was missing!! So looked to see how many were gone and only the 2 housing bolts by the starter were in place. So I put the new bolts in and when I started it up and put it in gear it sounded like a bowling ball going down the alley. Is it possible that the converter is not seated in the tranny anymore? The bellhousing isn't cracked and its not leaking. Its a th350.

Check torque converter bolts. When loose, they can really l make a racket. Also would explain your missing trans mount bolts. Were you feeling any vibration. Hope it gets better. Bernie Steffen http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Come to think of it there was a vibration the last time I drove it. But it was the first time I had driven at a steady hwy speed since purchasing.

I tightened the converter bolts but its still noisy at real low rpm from 5 to 15 mph. Its more of a hollow noise. Any ideas?

Cracked flywheel, or cracked trans case. I'm suprised nothing worse happened with only 2 bolts holding it on. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

I checked the converter bolts again and they were loose. I took 1 out and it was a grade 5 bolt. They also looked a little short, so I went and bought new grade 8 bolts that were a little longer. Not being quite sure of the last owners handy work I proceeded to check all other mounting bolts and noticed the motor mount bolts were loose as well. I'm going to change out the flex plate and the converter. I found the receipt for the current converter and its a 2000-2200 stall. Hopefully I'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Any suggestions on what stall speed I should run? 383 3:73's .484 cam with 1.6 rockers 2wd short box reg cab.
