Sounds like you'll have some measureing to do. Measure the top mount hole to the bottom mount hole at ride height. Measure the frame to the bump stop. Then jack the truck up by the frame and then take both measurements again.
What your looking to do is to get an overall lenght, and a travel distance. Ten go to Summit and find a shock that is within the distances you require. Just make sure it has the ends that will bolt up to your truck.

Yeah I need a shock no longer than 12" comp. not much to choose from that short. thought maybe someone had same setup to save some time shopping. thanks!

I don't understand how putting a pair of traction bars would change the length of your shocks. They should be under the springs and shouldn't have made the shocks shorter.
When I put my 3" blocks on I found shocks from a 78 or so Malibu station wagon to be the right length.

X2! How did the installation of traction bars make your shocks become too short if they where the right length the start with?? Do the bars have a mount bolt for the shock like a caltrac?
Only other thing I could see is if your running a universal fit slapper bar like I was using that clamps to the springs with U-bolts. If you clamp the overload spring to the other leafs it will dearch the spring and lower the truck. I had these slapper bars and had no problems with the shocks though. Even if you are not running the overload spring the universal fit slappers will dearch the springs some when you clamp them down.
Or are they the kind that uses a J-bolt that goes around the axle tube and the slapper bars replace the lower clamping plate for the leaf springs? This kind usually has the shock mount made on them. If they are not purpose made for the S-10 the shock mount location is probably off. Then you should do like Space said.

My traction bars are s10 which have a mount for the shocks. The reason the shocks are to long is the 3" drop springs, plus the shock mount on the traction bars are probably a little different.

Oh, OK. I dont think you mentioned the drop springs. Well my rough guess would be 3" shorter than stock. Have you looked at QA1, Koni, Strange, and Competition Engineering?
Good Luck!

Yes I have looked at all those at jegs. competiton engineering in my price range but jegs does not specify mounting types. I'll try CE websight. Thanks Stroker your truck looks alot like mine maybe 1" higher in rear and mine is dark brown matallic and daily driver so it doesn't as bad a** as yours.

you can go on summit's website and go to search by model and type in your truck's year make and model and it will show all the parts that summit has that fit's onto your truck. summit sells adjustable shocks that are a lil cheaper than ce's but prob. not as good.

I think I am going to go with pro comp toxic. found one that will fit. But tried summits sight, typed in vehicle and amount lowered came up with one shock. [pro comp] after some checking found out it is stock length, called pro comp gave them the same info they suggested the same part # [stock length]. I had to tell them the actual length I need and they recommended the correct part. thanks.
