In search of some info between the ls1 and the lt1.

What I am looking for is ... are the bell and trannys the same? Oil pans? motor mounts?

My buddy got an LT1 powered 4x4 that we want to put in an Ls1.

Any help is appreciated!

Space, Think of the LT1 same as gen 1 engine with the distributor in the front. The pan is close to the same as gen 1. The mounts for this block is the same as gen 1. The LS1 is complete different. The pan is different, there is no distributor. The engine mounts are different also. I think the LT1 conversion would be easier than the LS1. That part is up to you.

And, as I understand it, the bellhousing pattern is the same. That's the only good news. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Thanks.

The tranny bells are the same bolt pattern???

I guess I am going to have to make another new 4x oil pan http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif Just made 2 pans this week. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Didn't really want to charter new territory with ths LS1 swap- especially in a 4x4. (Havent at all yet had to deal with the LS power plants.)

IF I get to do it or help my buddy with it, I will try toget some pics.

The LS1 has an extra bolt at the top and skips one of the other bolts, a TH350/700r4, etc will bolt to a LS1/GenIII but needs a special converter to do it.

The bell housing bolt pattern is the same it just doesn't have the top bolt for to hook up so there really isn't much to worry about with bolting the bell housing to tranny.

how expensive and hard was it to install the LT1 in the 4x4 because i have a 94 s10 blazer just dying for some more horsepower but the only problem is that its a 4 door

Update.

He had pulled the LT1 out. Its done...blew up. The LS1 purchase fell through. SO... the truck got what was laying around hiding under the work bench ... A 50,000 mile 78 sbc from a rotted out k10. The motor got set in and thats all that happened. His new job hasn't allowed him the time to get back to the 305 powerless plant install.

SO I figured I give ya an update.

As for cost to installl the LT1, I don't know. T had the lt1 in the truck when he bought it. It has a Painless wiring harness to operate the fuel injection which won't be reused for the 305 carb that is going init.
