I was wondering how a Slave cylinder might act if it was goin out my kids S10 is actin weird wont alow you to put it in gear unless its shut off then start it and it will take off fine just no shift any help would be great

That is what will happen first. Try bleeding it, if it is not a closed system.

is the reservoir full? does the pedal feel like it's making pressure? what year truck?

does the pedal get shitty at one point or another in the travel? either spongy or hard? spongy usually means theres air in the system somewhere. I personally ran into a problem where the pedal got real hard about 1/2 way down. the more i drove it the worse it got until the slave cylinder literally popped. turns out the stud that the clutch fork pivots on backed out. the hardness in the pedal was the throwout bearing hanging up on the input shaft.



check the whole thing for loose connections, leakage, and get your kid to work the pedal. get under the truck and see if the slave cylinder is actually moving like its supposed to.

My little brothers S10 did this, we ended up starting it off in 2nd gear...while it still ran...my little brother is hell on vehicles.

sounds like clutch is going out to me.
