Was at Mikes, the local pick and pull, and was looking at a 96 excab, and noticed it had a one piece driveshaft. Do all second gen ex cabs have one piece driveshafts? Any one know if there is a chance it will fit in my 87 excab? Can the aluminum one piece driveshafts be shortened? Lots of questions but I'm tired of driveshaft vibrations. Any help appreciated. thanks Bernie. Steffen http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

My best answer would be to take a tape measure and measure from the back of your tail shaft to the mount on the rear. Then go back to the pick and pull and measure that. If its the same or really really close it might be worth buying. If you do get it you'll have to remove the bracket on the crossmember where the carrier bearing was bolted to.

Aluminum can be welded. It might be better to take it to a place that does drive shafts so they could balance it too if you have it need to have it shortened.

just to make things simple i measured the distance from seal at the end of the tranny to the u-joint cup and had one made. that way I knew it was right and new. cost was 340.00 for all new u-joints and labor and also a new yoke.
