So we have the ls1 in and we are having a few problems. We found out for sure that I am going to have to switch the alternator and power steering mounts to the vette mount because the camaro mounts will not work. We switched the oil pan to a truck 5.3 oil pan in hopes of not having to notch the frame as much, but even after we have notched the frame with what we thought would work it appears to still not fit. Now we didn't bang back the firewall but I didn't think we would have to. Has anyone had to bang back the firewall to get the ls1 oil pan to fit? Another thing is we are going to have to notch the frame considerably where the ac compressor interferes but I kind of expected that. Yet another problem is that the drivers side exhaust manifold won't fit in because of the steering column. I am wondering if between moving the steering column to the drivers side as much as possible and moving the engine to the passenger side an 1" or so, if it's going to be enough to fit the exhaust manifold. I am not using headers because I live in Ca. and want to pass the referee inspection. I guess I could also switch to a smaller steering u joint and set up but I need some help from others opinions please help!?!

p.s. I do have the swap book which doesn't really help with the ls1 swap at all and I also have the ls1 swap book from ls1blazer but it's all on a newer truck and a lot of it doesn't seem to be the same.

are you using the 98 F-body manifolds? I did mine on a second gen and didn't have to hit the firewall at all. A/C compressor you will have to cut into the frame to make work. There is a new oil pan out that should work with out cutting the frame. Haven't tried it on a 1st gen but I would assume it would work.

If you are using the ls1 accessories, you can buy a alternator relocation kit through this site that will replace your stock alternator with a cs style mounted up high and still use your other stock accessories. You will need to clearance the frame rail for the ac compressor. May I also suggest the sanderson ls conversion headers? They will cure the manifold fitment problem.

So did it come out? I'm getting parts for my LS2 swap into my 90 jimmy 2wd and looking to talk to people about up coming problems.
