One little question. I used the motor mounts from this website. Can anyone tell me if this will put the front of the engine in the center of the truck. I still have a driveline vibration, and I believe its a phase type vibration not a out of balance thing. Everything seems to be okay with the ujoints and everything associated with. As best as I can measure it seems to set one inch off to the passenger side. I just wondered if they built this into the mounts for more clearance on the steering shaft. any thoughts appreciated Bernie Steffen http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

The mounts from this site are designed to place the motor in the center of the mounts like the motor was originally(which is 0.5" to the passenger side, so one measurement will be 1" shorter than the other) or farther to the passenger side. I built my mounts based off the ones off this site but made them to allow the motor to be centered in the truck. I currently have my motor ~1/8" off center toward the passenger side and do not have any clearance problems with headers(shortys).

What do your driveline angles look like?

91XCABPRO Driveline angles are within one degree of each other. My truck is also an x cab. the rear suspension is stock stock rear.3.08 ratio. Used motor mounts from this web site. used original rear cross member. Have shimmed pinion up down and sideways if I could. Raised rear trans mount one inch raised hanger bearing one inch. Doesn't seem to make much difference. Thats why I got to thinking its something out of line sideways. Anyway Thanks for the comeback. Bernie, seem you have been through the whole drivetrain. Have you checked the tires and or wheels???? Is there any why you can swap out tires and wheels with a known good vehicle? It's one more thing to eliminate. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Does this happen all the time or only at or above a certain speed?

When does it happen?

I know you said you checked your drivetrain, but I must ask specifics.

Did you remove the drive shaft and check the u-joints for movement. Its possible that the u-joint could fell good and look good till you try to turn the caps when not in the truck. The needle bearings wear marks on the cap and the center.

Okay Reply to everybody and by the way thanks for the interest. I'll tell the whole story. 305 tbi 700r4. When I first built the truck I had it lowered, 3 inches in the rear. Had vibration so I put it back to stock. By the way. The original driveshaft vibrated so I took it to a driveshaft shop. They put all new joints in it and balanced it. Tires are new Cooper Cobras. 235 on front 265 on rear. This is strictly a everyday driver. Like I said before its not a balance thing. Its more like something is out of line.

Any thanks again for all your thoughts. One more thing It does this thing more when you accelerate or decelerate. They tell you to check your driveline angles with the truck settin on the ground. I'm 71 years old and weigh 250. about one foot thick through the chest , dont know how to do that..

Sorry for ranbling. Bernie Steffen http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

When I was doing my drive line angles, I jacked the truck up in the garage put a cinder block and a piece of2x8 under each tire. Bounced on the front and rear a few times to settle the suspension. Brought it up an extra 9 inches.

Take it to a repair shop that has a drive on lift. You'll have to find one that will let you walk under it with the tech. Then you can check and measure the angles your self. The shop might bang you 1/2 hour but it would make lfe soo much easier. you'll also be able to look under the truck from a differnt angle. Anotherwords you might see something that you did't want to see.

I know you said all thing good w/drive shaft, but how is the bearing in tail shaft in the trany the drive shaft yoke slips over?

I know in the monte SS that I had, It had a bad bronze bushing in the tail shft housing. That thing shook like mad when you footed the throttle. Napa sold a kit for it. Once I replaced the bushing and the seal it was better!!!

Space.
