So after i replaced the core in my rad (custom job), replaced the rear (ford 9" from bronco), one of my electric cooling fans burned up out after only 125 miles of driving. Well, the whole setup was jerry rigged when they put the 350 TPI motor in, but it all worked okay so i just put it back together. The truck has air conditioning, and the core supports had been modified to position the radiator between the stock and forward position. This left almost no room for the Flexalite 210 fan that is heavily modified to fit the rad (too wide for the rad). I'm going to be buying the forward position rad mounts, and going to leave room to add one of the 5/8" thick condensers at a later time. If I have my dimensions right, I'll have just barely 4" from my water pump pulley to the radiator.
I was wondering if the V6 Explorer clutch fans would fit (the manual says they are 2.75" thick with fan), or should i go with that dual electric fan setup that the s10v8 store sells, as my rad has very close to the same dimensions as a corvette rad. Any advice would be really helpful.

I would go with whichever fan set-up has the most cooling power--- and u have air

If your radiator is really close to a 'vette rad., then you might want to check into the ford taurus electric fan(1990-1995 w/3.8L). Radiator must be in forward position. That's how i have mine set up, and so far it cools just fine. Plus, if you are already running an electric, you may not like a flex fan... Noisy as hell and cost horsepower. I picked up my taurus fan on ebay for about $80 after shipping, brand new.

How thick is the Ford Taurus fan?

I put the vette rad in the forward position and notched and boxed the hood latch/center brace to let me mount the condensor in front of the rad support--using spal dual 11" fans which fit the core perfectly--running 10-1 compression 383 and never got over 180 in 100 deg weather--using dual fans increases water pump clearance as there is no fan in the middle--pics here http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o284/91xcabpro/?start=20

Taurus fan is about 4 1/2" thick, but the (fan)motor is offset somewhat. There is about 1/2-3/4" between the water pump pulley and the fan. It's tight, but it is working like it should. Put about 200 miles on it so far, with no problems.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it. I'll make my final decision when i get the rad mounted in the forward position. Thanks again.

i ended up using the stock shroud and a 15 flexlite mechanical fan. I tried the taurus fan, but there wasnt enough room for me. I dont like the idea of the forward radiator. So I tried two 11 pusher fans. they couldnt keep up. It would get hot pretty quick and wouldnt cool back down. The mechanical fan may cost some hp, but a 40 degree drop in coolant temp will make that up. (atleast for me)
but since your moving your radiator, I would go with the taurus fan
