View Full Version : 85 s10 rear
I have an 85 s10 and it has the original rear under it. I was wondering if it has the 7.5 or the 7.625 rear. Also I was told the gears are 3.42 is this so cause I have no labels or anything in the glovebox. If it is a 7.5 I wanted to buy a posi differential for it but I cant find one from jegs or summit. Thanks.

On the RH axle tube towards the top and about 4\"-6\" from the carrier will be a code stamped into the tube. This will give the ratio without pulling the cover. It will be moree than likely a 7.5 rearend. With the cover off on the ring gear you will find some numbers stamped in it. Look for the one that look like this....41.10 or 42.13 or the likes. Divide the big number by the small number and you\'ll have your ratio.
Hope that helps you.

hey I appreciate it. I also found the differential for the 7.5 online from jegs but I was wondering what the difference and if it was worth it between the pro series differential and the regular. Its only like 80 dollars difference. Thanks , Kory

why not buy this (http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?PARTNUMBER=64501T&SHOWIMAGE=On&SHOWEMAIL=Off) and save yourself about $300 you\'ll have to change to 28 spline axels because your stock 7.5 rear end only has 26 spline axels, the 7.625 has 28 spline axels, you can get the axels from a wrecker, the zexel\'s are great, they supposable handle up to 500hp, the axels will twist before the diff will give out, just something to look into
\"your tranny is slipping\"
\"no dad i\'m pretty sure thats the tires\"
\"wow, thas a lot of smoke\"
\"thats a fun smell\"
the conversation between me and my dad on the way back from the exhaust shop
Yea the guy that had it before me took the motor and tranny out so he said it was a stick 4cl. But thats all I really know im not sure if the glove box was changed or what but i never saw a sticker or anything.

If you take the V.I.N. and call your local dealer they should be able to tell you what the truck came with for engine, tranny, and rear end ratio.
