i am going to be throwing a 99 350 vortec in my 94 sonoma wiht a 4.3. I know, lots of work, but thats not what this topic is about. Im planning on taking my 94 4.3 TBI and putting it in a 1989 blazer with a dead 4.3 TBI. i will use this blazer for the couple weeks im working on my other swap, has anyone done a swap similar to this, im going to compare the 2 this weekend, im hoping nearly everything is the same and ill be able to bolt it in in a weekend, does anyone know if wring and computer are the same. will i need to swap my computers? im not sure which tranny the 89 blazer has, my 94 has the 4l60E, hopefully there isnt much a difference

If your 89 has a 4.3 the transmission you have will work. I wouldn\'t even try to do this swap but wiring scares me. I doubt you get it going in a weekend. It took me one week to swap a 2.2 for another 2.2 but that was my first late model swap.

if the 94 is actual tbi it should be a even swap but i think the 94s had the mpi with the \"spider\" injector but even still if you swap the complete harness and computer it can be done. or the easy way would be swap intakes from the old tbi 4.3 onto the 94 4.3 or if the head to intake bolt patteren is different even swap heads would be easier than swaping harness and stuff.. the sensors and everything from the block should swap to the newwer block.

they should be the same but a 94 tbi motor is a vortec design, a 88 tbi is not.

What killed the old 4.3? if its a bad rod or a piston etc just swap over the sensors and distributor and tbi unit and it should fire right up.

not sure exactly, i guess it burns a quart of oil every 200 miles or maybe less, if ya rev the hell out of it it will drip right out the exhaust, leaves a big black spot really easy. still runs though just doesnt seem reliable, and my engine has 187,000 and burns 1/2 quart every 3000 miles. runs great its just not enough for me in my truck. it should work fine in the super jimmy though

ok swap over the sensors if the tbi is the same keep it if not switch it over and switch over the distributors but dont forget vortec cam\'s are different then the older cams the gear on the dist must be swapped with the vortec one so you dont rune your dist or cam. do that and bolt the engine in and your should be rocking and rolling.

Are they both 2wd? Are they both 4wd? If so no problem.

If one is 2wd and the other 4x4 you will need to switch oilpans

and oilpump pickups. Since they are both high mile engines you

could just swap oil pumps. Be sure to torque the oil pump bolt

to 65 ft. lbs. Better yet spend 30-40 and put a new pump and

pickup in. Might help that old engine live a while longer. You

can reuse the oilpan gasket on these engines.

More than likely both distributors will have two connectors.

One is two wires (pink & white{power & tach}). The other is

four wires (ecm &esc). If this is the case on both engines, you

can leave the distributors in the engine and they will work fine.

No need to reset the timing if it isn\'t necessary. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
