View Full Version : Pickup coil?

I\'m trying to get my 88 running. It has the 2.5 litre 4 cylinder with 5 speed standard tranny. It will start but runs like ***, real rough, and will die after a few minutes. The guy I bought it from told me that the pickup coil was the culprit. This seem right?

I am asking because getting to the distributor on that motor is a pain in the arse. I\'ve replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires so far with no luck. Gonna put a distributor cap and rotor on it this evening to see if that remedies the issue.

Any pointer would be helpful. Thanks.

you can check a service manual it\'ll tell you how to use an ohm meter to check the coil or you can just go to a junk yard and pick up a used one and swap it in to see how it works.
