What rearend do I have?

00 Xtreme Reg Cab Short bed 4cyl 5 sp. What rearend should this truck have or where can I find out? Is it, or should it be limited slip. Is it 7 1/2 or 7 5/8\'s? Will it handle the power output generated by a 97 LT-1. About 280 HP? Thanks in advance.

7.625, it\'ll handle all of 280hp, i had over 400hp and i didn\'t hurt mine, with that much power though i had to put a mini spool in because the spider gears never would have held up, being a xtream it should have a posi, but i\'m not positive on that, the easiest way to tell is on the right hand axel tube it\'ll have a stamp on it it\'ll have a couple letters and you can look it up in a book tofind out, or simply pull the cover off and look inside, all new trucks will have the 7.625 and a lot of xtreams and 4x4\'s find a home for a zexel posi just like in the camaro/firebird, if thats the case it\'ll handle 400+hp in stock trim, another easy way to find out if you have posi is the fun way, rev er up and dump the clutch, if it spins em both then you\'ve got a posi, if not it\'s a open diff http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
