I have an 88 s-10 2-wd and am in the process of doing the conversion. I have a friend who will sell me a posi track rear end out of a 79 Firebird. Can I use this rear end without modifications (i.e. still use leaf springs)? Can I take the rear-end out of the bell housing and put it in the s-10 bell housing? Thanks.

What about the rear end out of a 4x4 s-10. They are posi are they not? They would also fit in the bell housing I think? Thanks!

the carrier from the firebird will not work.that has a 8.2 or 8.5 ring gear and the S10 has a 7.5 and a 7 3/4 ring gear.you need one from a S10 or 82-87 camaro or firebird.

The ones from a camaro or firebird are too wide for a 2wd. At least in compared to the stock rear. You will also have to weld up a bunch of stuff. Like 4more said, not all 4x4\'s had posi. And they are 4\" wider than the 2wd rear end. Just run your current till it blows. Then go from there.

get a 9 inch ford rear, the gearing possibilities are endless, and they arent to hard to find if you look around. ive seen place that will narrow the rear for 85 bucks, you gut the rear, send the housing and measurements, and they narrow it. then you get axles from moser for 75 bucks or so, and youll never have to worry about your rearend ever again
