Probably the most primary thing about converting my s10 from a 4 cylinder to a v8 is the v8 itself...where can i get this and how much is a good price?

That really depends on what you want. You can get I used one for as less as $200 or a brand new crate engine upwards of $10,000, all depends on what you want. Best thing to do is figure out your budget and go from there.

depends on how much you know about engines. i got mine out of the junk yard and rebuilt it. ofcourse it sitts in my garage because i dont have the time or money to finish the job right now. you should be able to get a running complete engine out of a junk yard for a couiple hundred dollars. or if you have money to burn or an aunt that recently died and left you the estate, buy a crate motor. ofcourse yull need a tranny too. Go to the junk yard and look around.

well...if i go to a junkyard do i get any engine or what specifics do i need? what fits inside my truck? i really want to do this and i got time and a decent amount to spend, but i need to have more than a plan to pull this off efficiently.

If you get one from a salvage yard, try and get one from a camaro, and get all the fixins with it, pulleys, alternator power steering pump, etc...also get the transmission with it, most salvage yard will sale a complete set up like this for around $1500.

I dont personaly think that going to a junk yard and buying a complete motor and tranny is a good idea. My best friend used to own a Wrecking yard, and the guys there would sell you a motor that is just about to shoot the *beep*, a tranny that has been sitting out in the open air collecting dirt and rust. They would clean it up to look good and get their 1500 outa you and send you on your way with a recipt that stated on the back that ALL SALES ARE FINAL. You should find your self a good block , get it decked, bored and and then find your self a rebuild kit. If you want a basicly stock motor, you can get a cast crank for around $250, pistons for $150 with rings, rods for around a $100. Basicly you can build a short block for under 500 or so, then get a decent set of heads for about the same. So there is about a $1,100 for a good motor that you know has no miles on it and you know what it consists of. then you tackle the problem of a tranny, Well call Jegs or Summit and get one of their TH-350\'s for $600 and you will be set.

Another option. Find a wrecked vehicle and buy the whole thing. I just bought a wrecked 91 Camaro 350 TPI, 700R4 and a bunch of other parts I can use for $900. Good luck.
